Archie Griffin has statue unveiled at Rose Bowl

Archie Griffin is royalty in Columbus. As the only two-time Heisman Trophy winner in college football history, Griffin is also a national treasure and one of the greatest ambassadors of the game.

Archie had an incredible career at Ohio State. As a four-year starter, Griffin would rush for over 5,500 yards and was at one point the all-time leader in rushing yards. While toting the rock for the Scarlet and Gray, the Buckeyes would play in four Rose Bowl games.

Although OSU went 1-3 in those four games, Griffin clearly left his mark. In those four Rose Bowls, Archie rushed for over 400 yards and was inducted into the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame in 1990. Now he’ll be immortalized for all time as a statue of the Buckeye running back was unveiled at the Rose Bowl on Saturday.

When asked about the honor Griffin spoke as eloquently as ever praising those who helped him achieve the honor.

“It means so much it’s indescribable,” said Griffin, one of two players to start in four consecutive Rose Bowl games. “I was very fortunate to be in the right place at the right time with the right people to allow me to be on great teams that did so well. With me having a statue, I look at it as an honor to the teams that I played on.”

Always a class act, Archie Griffin epitomizes what college football should be all about. There may be no one more deserving of this honor that has been bestowed upon him. Always making Buckeye Nation proud.
