Arbroath aren't more of a target for Accies - we want to beat everybody, says striker

Andy Winter admits it's annoying that Hamilton Accies haven't beat Arbroath this season, but that doesn't make them more of a target.

The 20-year-old striker says Stuart Taylor's side go into every game looking to win, but concedes that if that fact helps them get three points at New Douglas Park on Saturday, he'll take it.

Dick Campbell's side snatched a 2-2 draw at Gayfield back in February, with Dan O'Reilly and Andy Ryan scoring either side of a Nicky Low penalty, with a controversial second award allowing Michael McKenna to net from the spot in stoppage time.

Winter, however, says it’s just another game and a chance for three points.

He said: “We always go into every game wanting to win, and I don’t think we’ve beat them this season, so that will definitely be something to aim towards.

“There’s always that incentive to win, and if that’s what is going to push us over the line then great - but we always just want to go out there and win as many games as we can.

“They’re a decent team, they’re good at what they do and have a lot of experience in their squad as well.

“It will be tough, but we just want to go out there and get the three points.

“Getting the win at home in front of our fans would be a good feeling for everybody and that’s what we want to do – everybody goes home happy.”

Winter says Accies still feel the play-offs are a possible target and they’ll keep trying, though Friday’s 1-1 draw at Ayr dented their prospects.

However, Winter netted his third goal in as many games, and hopes he can see out the end of the season injury-free.

He said: “We’re always looking to catch teams in front of us, so we just take it a step at a time try to catch Raith and then keep going, and you never know what can happen.

“It was obviously disappointing to lose the goal in the way we did, and not get the three points on Friday, but it’s done now and we’ve just got to look forward to Saturday.

“I’m always confident in front of goal and to keep trying to get as many goals as I can and help the team in whatever way I can.

“This is probably good for me, that I haven’t had any niggles yet, so if I could finish the season like that, and go into pre-season for next year I think that would be massive for me.”
