The Saudi-led Arab coalition announced on Thursday that the Joint Forces Command will release 163 Houthi detainees who had taken part in hostilities against the Kingdom, reported the Saudi Press Agency.

The move is a humanitarian initiative in extension of previous ones.

It also supports all the efforts aimed at achieving peace and ending the conflict in Yemen.

It supports United Nations efforts to stabilize the current two-month ceasefire and create conducive efforts for dialogue between Yemeni parties, said the coalition.

Moreover, the humanitarian initiative aims at ending the Prisoners of War, Detainee and Martyr case in accordance to Islamic principles, inherent Arab values and International Humanitarian Law in the third Geneva Convention provisions that had been halted since the 2018 Stockholm Agreement.

The Joint Forces Command of the Coalition have kicked off the process of releasing the 163 detainees in coordination with the International Committee of the Red Cross and they will be transported to the Yemeni capital Sanaa, which is held by the Iran-backed Houthi militias.

Resolving the prisoner exchange and martyr case is a priority for the political and military leaderships, who have always stressed that these cases should be tackled in a purely humanitarian manner, away from any political or military agendas, said the coalition.
