James Wan returns as the director for this Aquaman sequel, with Jason Momoa reprising his role as the titular character Arthur Curry/Aquaman, now balancing his duties as both the King of Atlantis and a new father. All returning to the roles they originated, include, Patrick Wilson is Orm, Aquaman’s half-brother and his nemesis, who must now step into a new role as ally; Amber Heard is Mera, Atlantis’ Queen and mother of the heir to the throne; Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is Black Manta, committed more than ever to avenge his father’s death by destroying Aquaman, his family and Atlantis; and Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, a fierce leader and mother with the heart of a warrior. Also reprising their roles are Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus and Randall Park as Dr. Stephen Shin.
The sequel's storyline revolves around Black Manta's unrelenting quest for revenge against Aquaman for his father's death. Black Manta has become even more powerful, wielding the mythical Black Trident, which harbours an ancient and malevolent force. To defeat this formidable foe, Aquaman must form an unlikely alliance with his imprisoned brother Orm, the former King of Atlantis. Together, they must put aside their differences to protect their kingdom, save Aquaman's family, and prevent irreversible destruction from befalling the world.
Last year, the film was in the news over the uncertainty of Amber's part in the movie. Amidst the actress' case against Johnny Depp, fans on the internet called for the actress to be taken out of the film. During the trail, she had also claimed that her role in the movie was 'cut short'.
Aquaman earned USD 1.12 billion globally. It is Warner Bros' first DC movie to pass the USD 1 billion mark since Christopher Nolan's 2012 film The Dark Knight Rises. After the failure of The Flash, it remains to be seen if the film can rake in the big bucks at the box office.
Fans can mark their calendars for the release of 'Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom' in theaters on December 20, promising another exciting adventure in the aquatic world of DC
