Apple has issued a warning to anybody with an iPhone. It comes as users are facing a huge change this month to one of its most 'crucial' apps, iCloud.
The storage app is vital for users looking to save vital documents, images and videos and it may become inaccessible for many as the company hikes the prices. All UK users will now be forced to pay a 25% increase on the monthly rate which works out to be a couple of pennies for the smallest 50GB plan but a huge sting for those on its largest 2TB plan, which will see a rise of £2 a month.
The hikes are likely to leave customers looking for cheaper ways to store their valued content, and we've found a solution which means users won't pay a penny extra. One of the most sought-after features when buying an Apple product is being able to access special photos, videos and even texts from years back, even if it was taken or stored on an older iPhone or Apple device, now it will cost a lot more to do so.
Users of Apple’s 200GB of iCloud storage, a popular ‘go-to’ for many, will now rise from £2.49 to £2.99 each month leaving a £6 increase a year. The biggest rise is felt on the 2TB plan and will leave monthly subscribers paying £8.99 a month, £24 extra each year to get access to the exact same product.
Those who get by on the free 5GB of iCloud storage each month won’t be affected by the price hikes, but considering the amount of free storage hasn’t changed in more than 12 years the number of users getting away with not paying a penny may be slim. Amazon also offers users a free 5GB of data storage through its Amazon Photos: Photo and Video app, but those already signed up as a Prime member can get unlimited storage for absolutely free, well included in their subscription. Going forward it will free up the space left on users iPhones, so users can get by on Apple's free 5GB of iCloud storage and store all they need on Amazon. If you've not already signed up to be a Prime members you can do so for £8.99 a month, and unlimited storage is just one of the benefits.
