Apple iPhone 14: Best deals in January 2023

If you’re in the market for the latest iPhone, you’ll have to wait until Friday 16 September to get your hands on one – but you can put your order in now.

Here’s a rundown of everything you need to know about Apple’s latest flagship iPhone 14  – including the different handsets available and the most competitive deals.

What to expect from the iPhone 14

Handset options: As with its previous iPhone 13 offering, Apple has released not one, but four different handsets under its latest iteration. This time, it’s the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max with pre-orders now available across the whole range.

Handset costs: The standard iPhone 14 starts at £849 while for its larger version – the iPhone Plus – it’s £949. Costs of the Pro and Pro Max models of iPhone 14 start at £1,099 and £1,199 respectively.

Display: While the Super Retina XDR display is not new to the iPhone, this model comes with a brightness of up to 2,000 nits. For context, that’s 1,200 nits more than its predecessor. And according to Apple, no other smartphone is as bright.

Resolution: OLED and ‘True Tone’ technology is yet again teamed with a high resolution – on this occasion 1170 x 2532 with 460 pixels per inch – which help to bring depth to contrast of colour, adjust the display in different lighting and sharpen the image.

Battery: As to be expected of a flagship phone, the 14 comes with a longer battery life than its predecessors. Apple says this handset offers up to 20 hours of video playback.

A15 Bionic processor: Working with the battery to increase optimised performance is Apple’s A15 Bionic processor. The chipset first debuted in the iPhone 13 range.

A newer A16 Bionic processor also exists, but it’s currently exclusive to the Pro and Pro Max iPhone 14 models.  The A15 Bionic chipset consists of a five-core GPU which enables fluidity in performance, particularly for example, when it comes to graphic-heavy games.

Camera: A new iPhone range typically means an improved camera system, and this is the case for the iPhone 14 generation. The two 12MP rear lenses have been enhanced, while the main camera has a bigger sensor and aperture than the iPhone 13, letting in 29% more light.

This allows it to capture details that are 2.5x better in low light, while the ultra wide camera captures details 2x better in low light.  For life-like photos the camera also merges the best pixels from multiple exposures.

Storage: Storage ranges from 128GB to 512GB in the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, up to 1 TB for the Pro and Pro Max.

Power: The Pro and Pro Max premium models remain powered for longer and offer two standout features: the Dynamic Island display which intuitively expands to show notifications at the top of the screen, and ‘Always-On’ which allows your lock screen to continuously display notifications, even when you’re not using the phone.

The Pro and Pro Max versions of the iPhone 14 have a 120Hz refresh rate.

Resistance: All four models of the new iPhone generation come with a tough ceramic shield display, aluminium casing and are both dust and water resistant.

Connectivity: All iPhone 14 models come with 5G connectivity and can detect if you’ve been in a car crash and make emergency calls if you’re unresponsive. They support nano SIM cards, which are the smallest sized removable SIMs, and eSIMs – the latter allowing for the use of multiple phone numbers and service plans.
