The back-and-forth between U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and President Donald Trump's border czar Tom Homan continued this week when the lawmaker sent a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi asking if she is under investigation for advising constituents on how to communicate and deal with immigration officers.
Ocasio-Cortez hosted a webinar earlier this month in which she discussed with attendees about arrest trends by ICE in New York and explained what rights they have during raids by the immigration agency. A day later, during an interview with Fox News, Homan said he was working with the Department of Justice to determine whether the webinar impeded the Trump administration's immigration enforcement efforts. He added that AOC was "in trouble."
"Is that impeding our law enforcement efforts? And if so, what are we going to do about it? Is she crossing the line?" Homan asked.
"So, I'm working with the Department of Justice and finding out. Where is that line that they cross? So, maybe AOC's gonna be in trouble now," he added, while also threatening to pull federal funding from states that do not comply with deportations.
In her letter, Ocasio-Cortez said that Homan had "gone on multiple forums threatening political prosecution against me" for informing constituents of how to exercise their constitutional rights when talking to Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers.
Ocasio-Cortez goes on to ask Bondi to respond by March 5 "with an update on the Department of Justice's response to Mr. Homan's request" and to say whether or not her office or herself is "actively under investigation."

Ocasio-Cortez had already mocked Homan's remarks on Fox News on her X account by suggesting he should read the U.S. Constitution before making any claims. "Maybe he can learn to read," she wrote of Homan. "The Constitution would be a good place to start."
The attacks from both sides continued on Feb. 17, when Ocasio-Cortez responded to comments made by Homan at another interview in which he called her "the dumbest congresswoman ever elected to Congress."
Ocasio-Cortez replied to him by saying "he can threaten me with jail and call me names all he wants...he's got nothing else," she said on her Bluesky account.
