Newly appointed Sydney FC manager Ufuk Talay is confident the Sky Blues can salvage their horror A-League season and return to their old winning ways.
The former Wellington Phoenix boss took charge of his first training session on Thursday, just two days out from their clash against top-of-the-table Adelaide United.
Signing a two-year deal, Talay replaces the club's longest-serving manager in Steve Corica.
Failing to lead the club to a premiership or championship since 2020, Corica was sacked on Tuesday.
Sydney have yet to score in their opening three losses and sit bottom of the table, but it was only last month Corica guided the Sky Blues to victory in the Australia Cup final.
A former player alongside Corica and assistant coach at the club, Talay is bullish about restoring the struggling heavyweights as a powerhouse.
The 47-year-old, who left Wellington at the expiration of his contract earlier this year, believes the club already has what it takes to end its ALM premiership and championship drought.
"If you look at (Melbourne) City and what it stands for - we want to be big, bold, bold and iconic," Talay said on Thursday.
"We got the lads to do it. We have to have the attributes to do it. We have quality staff here to be able to achieve that.
"I'd be naive to come in and say that I'm going to scrap everything in two days but the expectation is there - the expectation of myself and the expectation of the group to be successful.
"When I'd spoken to some of the boys this morning, they know that this is a big club and the expectation is high.
"It's always a clean slate for players when a new coach comes in.
"There's still a bit of time and we're only three rounds in.
"Really everyone should be on their toes because anything's possible."
Sydney take on Adelaide this Saturday before Talay goes head-to-head with good friend Marko Rudan in a derby clash against the Western Sydney Wanderers.
