Millions of people may be missing on a financial boost, with those earning under £40,000 potentially eligible for support.
Money Saving Expert (MSE) issued advice in their first weekly email of 2023, urging households under the income threshold to check as they could be eligible for an extra £500 per month in support.
The reminder comes after one money saver managed to boost their monthly income following Martin Lewis' site's advice. They said: "Thanks to a link I spotted in one of Martin's weekly emails, I discovered I was entitled to some universal credit to boost my income. I'm now receiving over £500/month extra - which is helping me a great deal", reports Edinburgh Live.

Benefits calculator
The Government's benefits calculator can identify those who are eligible for any additional help.
The calculator will give a guide on:
- The benefits available
- How much benefit payments a person could receive
- How the benefits will be affected if a claimant starts work or increase their hours
- How any benefits will be affected if circumstances change - for example, if a claimant has a child or moves in with a partner
For information on income-related benefits, contribution-based benefits, Universal Credit, tax credits, Council Tax Reduction and Carer’s Allowance use:
The calculator requires accurate information on:
- Savings
- Income, including your partner’s (from payslips, for example)
- Existing benefits and pensions (including anyone living with you)
- Outgoings (such as rent, mortgage, childcare payments)
- Council Tax bill
Who cannot use the benefits calculator
- A prisoner
- A student
- Not a British or Irish citizen
- On strike
- Living outside the UK
- Living permanently in residential care or a nursing home
