Children aged five to 11 with underlying health conditions who were vaccinated against Covid-19 showed no serious side effects, Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said on Tuesday.
The Public Health Ministry began providing the first round of Pfizer's Covid-19 vaccine to children aged five to 11 at the Queen Sirikit National Institute of Child Health in Bangkok on Monday, Mr Anutin said.
The first group of vaccinated children had seven underlying health conditions, said the minister.
Institute director Adisai Pattatang reported that parents voluntarily took their children to the institute to get vaccinated. More than 150 children received the first shot, with most reported no adverse effects after vaccination. Like adults, some children had fever or pain in their arm, said Mr Anutin.
The institute would hold another round of vaccination and could accommodate 500 children a day, he said.
Parents can contact hospitals in their areas to schedule an appointment for a Covid-19 vaccine for their children with underlying health conditions.
The Department of Disease Control has delivered Pfizer's vaccine doses for children aged five to 11 to other provinces across the country. Vaccine shots were offered on a voluntary basis, said the minister.
