Manchester United transfer target Antony tuned in as the Red Devils secured a stunning victory over arch-rivals Liverpool on Monday night.
Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford scored either side of half-time as Erik ten Hag picked up his first Premier League win in the Old Trafford hot seat. It was a result which relieves the pressure on the new United manager, who lost his first two games against Brighton and Brentford.
It also put a smile on the faces of the Old Trafford faithful, thousands of whom were involved in a protest against the club's owners, the Glazer family, ahead of the match. There was another reason for the Red Devils to be happy, too, as Casemiro was spotted in the stands as he prepares to complete his £60million move from Real Madrid.
Once the Brazilian is formally unveiled as a United player, club chiefs will push to make three more signings before the 1 September transfer deadline, as exclusively reported by Sunday Mirror Sport. Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong and PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo are two of the players on their radar, while Ajax forward Antony is the third.
The Brazilian flourished under Erik ten Hag during the latter's time in Amsterdam and has been linked with a move to the Premier League throughout the summer. United appear to be accelerating their efforts to get a deal for the 22-year-old over the line at this stage of the window.
Is £76million a fair price for Antony? Have your say in the comments!
European transfer expert Nicolo Schira claims that the Red Devils have agreed personal terms with the player, who is ready to sign a contract until 2027. The report adds the fee for Antony would be €90million (£76m), so he would be the latest big-money arrival at Old Trafford in recent months if Ajax accept their bid.
Antony is desperate to join United and refused to train with his Ajax teammates last week in an effort to force through a transfer. It appears as though his loyalties may already lie elsewhere, as eagle-eyed social media users spotted that he was watching the North-West derby between United and Liverpool on television.
His brother and agent shared two pictures on his Instagram story and one of them, which has since been deleted, showed that they were sat on the sofa watching United beat their old foe 2-1. Mohamed Salah pulled one back for the visitors in the closing stages but United were able to weather the late pressure and cling on to the victory.
