Antony sends message to Man Utd team-mates after watching Leicester clash away from squad

Antony sent his best wishes to his new Manchester United team-mates as their Premier League game against Leicester got underway on Thursday night.

The Brazil international, 22, completed his £85million move from Ajax to United on deadline day, signing a long-term contract. He wasn't registered in time to play on Thursday night and didn't attend the King Power stadium to see his new team in action.

Antony would've been pleased with what he saw on TV as United won 1-0 thanks to Jadon Sancho's first-half strike. Erik ten Hag's side have now won three consecutive Premier League games following their victories against rivals Liverpool and Southampton.

Antony was keen to show his support for his new colleagues and tweeted a picture of his TV screen with the caption: "Let's go @ManUtd."

Much is expected of Antony following his big-money move to Old Trafford. The Brazilian joined Ajax from Sao Paulo in July 2020, scoring 18 goals and providing 14 assists in the Eredivisie before the opportunity to play in the Premier League came calling.

Most of those goals came under Ten Hag, who left Ajax for United in May. Antony achieved significant success under the Dutchman, winning two Eredivisie titles and the KNVB Cup. He also broke into Brazil's squad, winning nine senior caps to date.

"This is an incredible moment in my career to be joining one of the most iconic clubs in the world," Antony told United's website at his unveiling. "I’m thankful to everyone who has believed in me, especially my family, and all my coaches and team-mates, because I could not have got here without them.

“Playing under Erik ten Hag at Ajax was perfect for me and my development. His style of football and coaching brings out the best in me, and I am excited by what he has told me about his plans and ambitions in Manchester.

"My time at Ajax was fantastic and I will always be grateful for the trust they put in me, but now I am ready for the next challenge, and I can’t wait to join my new team-mates and play my part in bringing success to Manchester United."

United's football director John Murtough added: "Antony is one of the most exciting young talents in European football and has exactly the right profile for the attacking, dynamic team Erik is building.

"We have been especially impressed by his desire to join Manchester United, and to be part of a long-term project to get the club back to the levels of performance we all expect."

When asked about Antony's arrival after Thursday night's win, Ten Hag said: "Of course [I'm] really excited. He's a really good signing. I'm sure of that because he brings the temperament, he brings creativity and the fighting spirit. We need quality in numbers in the offensive department because we have a lot of games to cover."
