Antony's dream transfer to Man Utd hits setback as Ajax boss issues damning statement

Ajax boss Alfred Schreuder has reminded wantaway star Antony that he has a contract in Amsterdam amid continued interest from Manchester United.

The Brazilian has been the subject of several bids from those at Old Trafford and the player himself is keen to reunite with Erik ten Hag, who made the move to England several months ago. Antony has filed a transfer request in order to force through a move to Manchester.

Ajax have already seen several leading lights leave the Dutch capital this summer with Lisandro Martinez following his old boss to the Premier League for a hefty fee. Ryan Gravenberch has moved to Bayern Munich while Sebastien Haller has joined Borussia Dortmund.

It leaves Ajax in a strong financial position and, even though Schreuder seems to accept that Antony wants to leave, the forward is expected to play for the club in their next fixture. The boss has now issued and damning statement and told Voetbal International : "What he wants... there is nothing I can do about that.

"He has a contract with Ajax. We already sold many players, our players have ambition. I am confident that he will be playing for Ajax in one week from now."

United have seen a £67m bid for Antony rejected as the clubs remain in dialogue over a move. The Red Devils still want to add more firepower to their attack with last year's top goalscorer Cristiano Ronaldo looking to leave the club, which would leave a sizeable hole.

Antony has already refused to commit his future to Ajax, but maintains he will continue to "give everything". He was quizzed on whether he would stay in Amsterdam and told De Telegraaf : “No, to be perfectly honest, I can't. What I can say is that I want to come to the right decision with my family, business partners and Ajax, which is good for everyone.

"In the end, God determines my future. I am very happy at Ajax, I have a contract until the summer of 2025 and I will give everything for this beautiful club for every second. I wear the shirt with pride and from day one I feel at home. If we all decide that I will stay here, then I know that this is the best thing for me and the club.

"It’s not like I have to leave. Now I am focusing on playing football and have put all other matters in the hands of my agents and my brother. They will advise me on what is best.” Antony scored 12 times last term for Ajax as they retained their Eredivisie title.
