Antony price tag revealed as Tottenham have secret transfer weapon over Man Utd in Ajax talks

Ajax are set to demand a huge fee for Brazilian winger Antony as key sales this summer only spell bad news for Tottenham and Manchester United amid all this transfer speculation.

Man United's obsession with trying to sign Frenkie De Jong has meant that their progress in other deals has been thwarted. It was understood that the likes of Jurrien Timber and Lisandro Martinez were two defenders alongside the aforementioned winger that Erik ten Hag wanted but the Eredivisie champions' business elsewhere means that any more exits could be hard to come by. Their sales so far have included the likes of David Neres, Lassina Traore, Noa Lang and others seeking challenges elsewhere and you can now add former West Ham striker Sebastian Haller to this list as Borussia Dortmund close in on a £30million for a striker who set the Champions League alight in 2021/22.

Consequently, a large number of the Dutch title-winning squad have already been disintegrated and Edwin van der Sar amongst others on the board are ready to shut up shop this early on for the summer as their quest to replace some of the big-name losses begins. The only way Ajax will now sell their remaining big stars is if irresistible offers were to come in. How does this now affect Antony?

Well, despite his Man United preference which he delivered when sending his exit message to good friend Ten Hag, he will now need to hope that one of Tottenham or United stump up the cash required to open up the shop doors again in this situation. The fee quoted though could cause a few issues for both Premier League clubs. According to Dutch journalist Mike Verweij who has good connections into Ajax, the board are now seeking up to £68million if they were to sanction the 22-year-old's exit in the forthcoming weeks and months.

This update comes a few hours after it was reported by various outlets that the Red Devils had opened informal talks with the player in question. But now, with both United and Spurs on transfer budgets, how can both possibly afford the new price attached to the left-footed inverted winger?

Ajax are interested in Steven Bergwijn meaning a swap deal could be possible, especially if Antonio Conte was to lose out on other targets Raphinha and Richarlison to Arsenal and Chelsea respectively. United, who are set to see their owners take an £11million dividend out of the club by the end of this week, may have to pay straight cash meaning Tottenham could have the advantage if they were to act on their initial interest.

Tottenham fans - would you be willing to see Steven Bergwijn sacrificed if it meant the club were able to bring in Antony this summer or would you prefer the focus to be elsewhere? Leave your thoughts down below in the comments section!
