While Manchester United’s win over Liverpool on Monday night raised morale, there remains work to do on the transfer front.
Casemiro’s arrival is an attempt to answer the club’s long-running midfield problems but such has been the frustration this summer, United’s recruitment staff continue to be criticised.
Back in May, former interim manager Ralf Rangnick called on the club to sign at least two “modern strikers” but no new faces have yet arrived as Cristiano Ronaldo’s future continues to be the subject of much speculation.
Ajax forward Antony, who worked with Erik ten Hag in the Dutch capital, has been identified as a target and various reports have claimed United have already seen a bid rejected.
The Brazilian was left out of Ajax’s squad for their Eredivisie win over Sparta Rotterdam on Sunday with manager Alfred Schreuder taking a swipe at United for their renewed interest this late into the window.
“We are playing Champions League football. I don’t think Manchester United are playing Champions League football,” he told ESPN.
Antony, meanwhile, does not seem to be put off.
On Monday, the 22-year-old’s agent, Emerson Santos, posted a photo of the two watching United’s win over Liverpool on TV, though it has since been removed from Instagram.

Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho both scored on Monday night while Anthony Martial made his return from injury, though ten Hag is still believed to be keen on further additions to his frontline.
