Antonio Conte to test Tottenham’s transfer window ambitions before decision on new contract

Antonio Conte is in no rush to sign a new Tottenham contract.

The 53-year-old's Spurs contract expires at the end of the season, albeit with an option to extend by another year.

Tottenham and Conte are thought to have been in talks on a new deal for the accomplished Italian’s services.

Spurs are expected to be ready to tempt Conte into committing his long-term future to the north London club through a pay rise.

Conte is likely to wait to see how Tottenham fare in next month’s transfer window, to gauge the club’s continued ambitions.

Spurs forced their way to fourth place in the Premier League table ahead of the World Cup break, but will now face the challenge of quickly assimilating all their players ahead of the league’s restart.

Conte has kept his powder dry in terms of longer-term contracts at other clubs, in order to maintain pressure on club chiefs when it comes to recruitment strategy.

Tottenham’s board can point to active transfer work in recruiting the likes of Richarlison, Yves Bissouma and Ivan Perisic in terms of proving the club’s aims moving forward.

Spurs’ solid transfer work and measured progress also leaves the club as a desirable destination for other high-profile managers.
