Antonio Conte tipped for Tottenham Hotspur exit as Daniel Levy threatens to repeat major error

Former Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp has suggested that Antonio Conte could look to quit the club should he fail to correct their stuttering form.

The Italian was appointed as Nuno Espirito Santo’s replacement in north London back in November and enjoyed a positive initial impact.

However, that has not continued with Spurs having lost each of their last three Premier League games and now facing a serious fight to earn a place in the top four come the conclusion of the campaign.

As a result of that poor run of form, Redknapp has predicted that the Italian could walk away should he fail to inspire an improved outlook at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Speaking with talkSPORT, he said: “I do get the feeling with him that he’s not going to stick around if he sees this is not going to go well.

“It’s not what he’s been used to, he’s always managed top clubs with top players.

“I don’t think he will stick around if he doesn’t see a bit of progression there and a chance to be up there looking to win something, I think he’ll get disillusioned very quickly.”

Following an inconsistent first-half of the campaign, Spurs were busy in January as they welcomed Juventus duo Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski to north London.

It is clear that further investment is required sooner rather than later though - and Redknapp has compared the current situation in north London to that he also experienced under Daniel Levy.

The now 74-year-old continued: “I’ve been through that situation there, I know what it’s like.

“I remember we got to Christmas one year and we needed a couple of players to have a real push, I really felt we could challenge for the title, we were that close that year.

“They wouldn’t push the boat out, I ended up bringing in Louis Saha – who had been a great player but was coming to the end of his career – and Ryan Nelson, again a fantastic centre-half in his day but was a free transfer.

“It was time to have a go and push the boat out but it didn’t happen.

“I think they need to do that now, they need to really spend some money and bring in a couple of real top players.”
