Antonio Conte provides Tottenham injury update including major Ryan Sessegnon blow

Antonio Conte provided an update on the injuries to his Tottenham players, ahead of their trip to Old Trafford on Saturday.

Spurs go into the game on the back of a 5-0 victory over Everton on Monday, whereas Man United will be hoping for a response after their defeat to Man City.

It is a game that both teams need three points from, in the ongoing battle for a spot inside the top four, with fourth spot currently occupied by Arsenal.

The Red Devils are just a point and a place behind, but have played three games more and the Lilywhites are currently in seventh but their two games in hand mean they are still able to bridge the two point gap with Man United.

Conte has suffered with injury issues since his arrival in north London and has had to make rotations to his starting XI due to absentees.

Lucas Moura and Rodrigo Bentancur returned to the squad against Everton, whilst Oliver Skipp and Japhet Tanganga remained unavailable, two players the Italian gave an update on during his pre-match press conference.

"About Skipp and Tanganga, they are not ready. We have to wait," Conte admitted.

This will be difficult for the Italian, who has already spoken about Tottenham's medical department and his want for his players to return to full fitness as soon as possible and he spoke in more detail on Skipp's injury.

"For sure I am worried because he started with a groin pain and then we are talking about two months that he is out," the 52-year-old said. "I don't have so many midfielders, there is Rodrigo Bentancur, Pierre Emile Hojbjerg, Skipp and [Harry] Winks.

"To miss for a lot of time Skipp is not simple, and I have to hope also not to have injuries for our midfielders.

"It happened no? Bentancur had a problem and to have only two midfielders, you have to hope also to finish the game without injuries. This is a problem, I am a bit worried, in my mind, in the mind of my players, there is the desire to come back very soon.

"In this moment, if you ask me a forecast about his return, I don't have an answer," Conte added. "For this reason I am really worried, we are talking about a player who was playing very well and we need another midfielder with his type of characteristic."

Perhaps even more of a blow is Ryan Sessegnon, who had been finding form and performing well, starting the last six games for Spurs.

However after going off at half time against Everton, there was more bad news delivered on the 21-year-old.

"Bad news about Ryan Sessegnon," Conte explained. "He had a scan and a muscular problem. Maybe we'll see him after the international break."

"We're talking about not a new problem," the Italian added. "We have to with the medical department find a solution. Sometimes though there is a predisposition to have this type of problem."

Conte was full of praise for Sessegnon, who has had to deal with injuries throughout his time at Tottenham so far.

"He's very strong physically and sometimes it's good to be strong for your body sometimes it's not when you're too strong for your body," he said.

"His performances were good, he was excellent and he was improving. He's very frustrated. It's very young to see a player like this frustrated by these injuries. It's a pity. Also we have to work with him in the human aspect."
