Antonio Conte provides Tottenham injury news with Romero update and potential double blow

Antonio Conte has given an update on Tottenham's team news, ahead of their trip to face Nottingham Forest. On Friday, the Italian spoke about Cristian Romero and Oliver Skipp's injury, as well as revealing two more players who may miss out on Sunday's clash.

Spurs have won two and drawn one of their opening three games and already had to deal with absentees. Both Romero and Skipp missed out on the 1-0 victory against Wolves, due to injuries, with the latter not being involved in any fixtures so far.

Ahead of last week's clash against Bruno Lage's side, Conte explained the situation with the duo. "Cristian had a little problem during the game against Chelsea in the final part of the game, but it’s a little problem," he admitted.

"After the game he started to feel a bit of pain in his adductor. We checked him, and honestly the player wanted to give his availability but in this type of situation especially as we have a lot of games to play, it would be stupid to take a risk. For this reason for the game against Wolverhampton, he’s not available."

football.london reiterated this a couple days later as we understand the Argentine was told by the Spurs medical department that his injury would take three to four weeks of recovery. However, the defender wanted to get straight back into action, although Conte decided it would be "stupid to take a risk".

This meant that Davinson Sanchez had to step in for Romero against Wolves and despite some worries, did a solid job overall. On Friday, the 53-year-old gave an update on the Argentina international's absence and said he should begin training with the rest of the team next week, but is not yet available, "About Cuti, Cuti is recovering very well."

The other missing player was Skipp, who is still recovering from his injury he got in training, leaving him with a deep cut and hairline fracture in his heel. Conte did have some positive news on the midfielder, ahead of the Wolves match.

"The other player not available for Wolverhampton is [Oliver] Skipp but good news about him because today or tomorrow he will run again. This is really good news," he explained. "I hope this player to be a bit lucky because since January he started to have a problem. But I think hopefully he will be ready quickly.

"We need his performance, he’s a really good guy, and for sure he’s suffering a lot to stay outside, but I think for the period where we have to play a lot of games he will be available, which is really good news for us."

This was another player the Italian commented on in his pre-match press conference on Friday and much like Romero, the Tottenham boss said Skipp is also not yet available, but will hopefully also begin training with the rest of the squad at the start of next week. However, Conte also explained two more players who could miss out on Sunday's fixture.

"Have to check couple of situations. Lucas [Moura] and [Bryan] Gil as today didn't have training session with us. Have tomorrow to make the right decision for both players," he admitted.

Therefore, the Italian could be without up to four players for the weekend match. However, his depth in the Tottenham squad will hopefully mean Spurs can still produce a solid performance and secure all three points.
