After making six summer signings in this summer's transfer window, Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte has told fans not to necessarily expect a title challenge despite a successful window.
He has referred to Manchester United's window last summer, where they signed Rafael Varane, Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo before falling four places in the Premier League and failing to qualify for the Champions League as a warning for people not to necessarily expect success based on transfer business.
Spurs have brought in Yves Bissouma, Ivan Perisic, Djed Spence, Clement Lenglet, Richarlison and Fraser Forster this summer for a combined £94 million, with three transfers coming in on a free. Conte reportedly demanded the club made changes to the club's transfer policy in order to achieve success in the future.

The Italian is known for his pragmatism and and was typically understated when asked whether his summer transfer business meant that a title challenge could be on the cards. When speaking to a news conference on Thursday, Conte was asked whether or not his side could break the duopoly Liverpool and Manchester City have held on the Premier League for the past five seasons.
He also reminded reporters that Chelsea could be a threat, before explaining his thoughts on United: "And then there is United. Football is not one, more one, [equals] two. United, last season, finish sixth despite a transfer market of [Jadon] Sancho, Cristiano Ronaldo and [Raphael] Varane. Two seasons ago they finished second.
"They did this transfer market to try to win the league and they finished sixth. You have to pay attention in my opinion to all of these situations.
"We know that in England it is difficult to fight to win but we want to try to be competitive, to try to improve on last season and this is our target.
