Antonio Conte makes claim about red card after Thomas Tuchel altercation in Chelsea vs Tottenham

Antonio Conte has stated the referee didn't understand the dynamic of what happened after he received a red card following his altercation with Thomas Tuchel in Tottenham's 2-2 draw at Chelsea. In a very lively encounter at Stamford Bridge, the managers squared up after Spurs' first goal of the contest and then at the full-time whistle.

The Chelsea boss took an exception to his counterpart's reaction after Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg's strike as he celebrated passionately and headed towards the Blues' bench. Already angry after Chelsea were not awarded a free-kick after Rodrigo Bentancur appeared to foul Kai Havertz, the German manager was involved in a confrontation with the Tottenham boss, with both managers booked for the incident.

Things then escalated again at the full-time whistle as the pair went to shake hands, with Tuchel not wanting to let go of Conte's hand and signalling to him to look at him in the eye. Speaking to the media in SW6 after the eventful game, Conte delivered his verdict on what actually took place.

"But honestly the referee showed me a red card but he didn't understand the dynamic of what happened, but it's ok I have to accept, but I repeat this is not a big problem," he said. "It's not important. The problem is between me and the other coach, not for the others."

On his celebration in the draw, he said: "I think the celebrations involved on both sides were really good celebrations, yes. The run, then the jump and you can understand about these celebrations because the feeling about us and Chelsea for this game.

"I think this game is an important game for both clubs. For sure for me it was important because to lose three games in a row against the same coach I don't like. I hate to lose and you know very well I try to transfer my mentality and my passion into my players because you can be good tactically, technically but then you need good blood in your vein to fight for something important.

"I think we have started a process in this aspect and today I am happy because my players wanted to stay in the game despite the difficulty of the game."
