Antonio Conte makes big Dele Alli decision ahead of Tottenham's Premier League game vs Chelsea

Dele Alli has been left out of the Tottenham matchday squad for Sunday's Premier League clash against Chelsea.

Initially forcing his way into Nuno Espirito Santo's Spurs XI at the start of the season before later finding himself on the bench, the 25-year-old has struggled for game time since Antonio Conte replaced the Portuguese at the helm.

Alli, who has been linked with a January move away from the capital, was an unused substitute in midweek for the thrilling win away at Leicester City but he hasn't been included in Conte's plans for the trip across London to face the Champions League holders.

His omission does now hint at a potential transfer exit before next Monday's transfer deadline as he looks to feature regularly and rediscover his top form.

Heavily linked with a move to Newcastle United as they aim to bring in some fresh faces to help in their battle against the drop, Everton are also believed to be interested in a deal for the attacking midfielder.

Alli has made a total of six appearances in all competitions for Tottenham since Conte's appointment, with two of those starts in the Premier League.

The ex-MK Dons ace last featured for the Lilywhites in the 3-1 FA Cup third round win over Morecambe a fortnight ago.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the game at Stamford Bridge, Conte opened up on facing Chelsea for the third time this month after previously facing them in the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

"We know very well that we are going to play against a really strong team," he said. "Don’t forget Chelsea won the Champions League, now they’re in the final of the Carabao Cup, so we’re talking about a really good team. I don’t know if this is the right moment.

"We have our problems with many injuries but for sure we want to try to give our best against Chelsea.

"They have beaten us in the last two games and we have to try to learn something about the past to try to improve to try and give our best."
