Furious Antonio Conte claimed Tottenham were the victims of “injustice” after he was red carded following last-gasp drama at White Hart Lane.
Tottenham boss Conte was sent to the stands after VAR ruled out Harry Kane’s 95th minute effort which appeared to have secured victory. But Conte then launched an astonishing attack on referee Danny Makkelie and claimed they would not deny a “big team” of victory and accused the officials of being dishonest.
Tottenham now face a nervous final match in Marseille when they need a point to guarantee qualification and they will have to do it without Conte who faces a touchline ban.
Conte said: “The ball was in front of Kane and the goal is a goal. I don’t understand the VAR, the line they put. It’s very difficult to comment on this decision, VAR is creating a lot of damage.
“We have to accept. I want to see if we are in another stadium of a big team if they are ready to disallow this type of goal. I feel a lot of injustice, I don’t see positivity with this.
“I want to see if they are so brave with another big team. I do not see honesty in this. All the people come inside after the decision to disallow and then they come to give me a red card because I’m the most popular person on the pitch.
“We deserved to win, in the end we know what happened. We need one point but I don’t understand why we need to wait for one game when we could have completed qualification tonight.
"When you invite the type of situation - it is incredible - you create a lot damage. Also big problems. The club has to be strong and speak up about this. If we go out, then I want to see.”
Sporting goalscorer Marcus Edwards said: “Crazy game. Dramatic towards the end. Crazy for me. It’s crazy, all my family and friends are here supporting me. I wasn't going to celebrate but I was too happy. I can’t put it into words.”
