Antonio Conte issues fresh Cristian Romero injury update and positive news over Spurs midfielder

Antonio Conte has stated that Cristian Romero will not be available for Saturday's Premier League clash against Wolves through injury. Playing the full 90 minutes in Tottenham's first two games of the Premier League campaign against Southampton and Chelsea, the centre-back sustained a muscle injury late on in the 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Certainly a blow for Tottenham due to the player's excellent form, Davinson Sanchez will be the favourite to come into the team and deputise for him. Speaking to the media to preview the Wolves game, the Tottenham head coach offered an update on Romero's injury and claimed that his player wanted to make himself available despite his injury.

"Cristian had a little problem during the game against Chelsea in the final part of the game. But it’s a little problem. After the game he started to feel a bit of pain in his adductor," said the 53-year-old.

"We checked him, and honestly the player wanted to give his availability but in this type of situation especially as we have a lot of games to play, it would be stupid to take a risk. For this reason for the age against Wolverhampton he’s not available."

When speaking about injuries, Conte did deliver some positive news on Oliver Skipp after his recent absence due to a hairline fracture in his heel.

"The other player not available for Wolverhampton is Skipp but good news about him because today or tomorrow he will run again. This is really good news," admitted Conte. "I hope this player to be a bit lucky because since January he started to have a problem.

"But I think hopefully he will be ready quickly. We need his performance, he’s a really good guy, and for sure he’s suffering a lot to stay outside. But I think for the period where we have to play a lot of games he will be available, which is really good news for us."
