Antonio Conte in tough stance on Nottingham Forest transfer target as Djed Spence struggle explained

Nottingham Forest welcome Tottenham to the City Ground on Sunday as they look to cause a Premier League shock.

Ahead of the game, the Garibaldi Red podcast caught up with Ricky Sacks of the Last Word On Spurs podcast to discuss the fixture.

We also got Sacks' thoughts on what has gone wrong so far for former Reds loanee Djed Spence and defenders Sergio Reguilon and Japhet Tanganga, who have both been linked with moves to Forest.

How are Spurs fans viewing the game?

RS: "Forest will be up for this. It's a game which will be hard fought. As we've seen this season, there's no easy game. We've already seen Forest will make it hard to go there and get a result.

"There's a belief in Spurs' squad that they are better than last season. We've seen they brushed aside Southampton, Chelsea wasn't their best performance but take a point. Against Wolves, they goy a bit lucky. For some, under Conte it's not the prettiest football, but it's been a decent start with seven points out of nine.

"I don't think any Spurs fan will be underestimating Forest. They've made a number of signings and for the (Spurs) coaching and scouting staff that can be difficult. Forest will be an unknown entity for clubs who come up against them."

What's going on with Djed Spence after his move from Middlesbrough?

RS: "He's a young player. Spurs and Conte have said he's a club signing. He's been left out of the last two squads and with Conte, the summer signings have to prove their worth. They aren't going to walk into the first team.

"There will be a lot of work behind the scenes to get him up to how Conte wants to play. They'll be a transition period. There's been talk this week about whether it would be worth sending him out on loan, but Spurs could play 50 or 60 games this season.

"I'm sure there will game time for Djed Spence. It's early and Conte likes to bed players in. He's a young player, a massive prospect. Spurs fans are excited, but Conte is the boss and we have to trust him."

Would Reguilon and Tanganga be good signings for Forest?

RS: "Reguilon, I'm really disappointed it hasn't worked. When he came in with Gareth Bale people thought he'd a better long-term option. I'm not sure why it's not worked.

"Under Conte you thought he was a wing-back who could prove himself. Conte has made his mind up and gone with Ryan Sessegnon over him. He's got unbelievable pace but lacks an end product.

"Whether Steve Cooper could coach that into him remains to be seen. On Tanganga, he came through the academy.

"His debut against Liverpool was his best game and it's a shame we've not seen him push on. Maybe he needs a loan but he's in a place where he wants regular football. Forest could maybe offer that despite you signing the world!"
