Tottenham Hotspur showed in their 1-0 reverse at the hands of Burnley that Antonio Conte still has plenty of work to do with the club.
Since replacing Nuno Espirito Santo at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Italian has enjoyed plenty of praise for the impact he has had in north London.
It looked like all of the positive work that he was doing with Spurs was coming to a head at the weekend as they memorably dispatched of Premier League leaders Manchester City 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium - Harry Kane netting the winning goal late on.
Next coming up against a Burnley side rooted to the bottom of the table, there was confidence that Spurs would be able to push on - however a familiar foe reared its ugly head at Turf Moor, that being constant inconsistency.
Ben Mee proved to be the difference between the two sides in Lancashire as he converted in the 71st minute of the game.
Spurs’ rollercoaster results are a problem that has plagued their season all year long - beginning with the three consecutive wins at the start of the campaign followed by three back-to-back losses, albeit under Conte's predecessor Nuno Espirito Santo.
Again, a win against the league leaders and then a loss to the division’s basement boys have encapsulated that particular frustration - and it just goes to show that Conte hasn’t quite managed to achieve all of the targets he set out when he arrived at the club.
Speaking in an interview with the club’s official website, he said: "My coaching philosophy is very simple - to play good and attractive football for our fans. To have a stable team, not up and down.
"I think the fans deserve to have a competitive team with a will to fight. I will do everything to deserve their support. This type of situation pushes you and increases the desire to work and to do something important for the fans of this club.”
It of course remains to be seen whether Conte manages to eradicate the up and down results that supporters have experienced all season long but it is clear that by his own admission, he is failing in his task thus far.
