Antonio Conte made some admissions after Inter Milan's exit from the Champions Legaue which may provide Tottenham fans with some hope after their recent hardship.
Conte has won league titles with Chelsea, Juventus and Inter Milan and his success with the latter was just last season, before he made the move to N17 in November.
Although Inter topped the table in Serie A, they were knocked out of the European competition after finishing bottom of their group.
Now the 52-year-old has made the move back to the capital but is so far struggling to find the same success with his new side.
Spurs are currently eighth in the Premier League but after their recent defeats to Southampton, Wolves and Burnley, the fourth spot they have been aiming for is quickly becoming out of their reach.
After Tottenham's thrilling 3-2 victory over Man City, their trip to Turf Moor failed to live up to that result and Conte's side lost 1-0.
This then led to an emotional post match press conference from the Italian, who gave a shocking admission of his thoughts on the situation at his current club.
"The reality is this. That we lost four games of the last five," he admitted. "No one deserves this type of situation – the club, me, the payers and fans, but this is the reality.
"I came in to try to improve the situation in Tottenham but maybe in this moment, I don’t know, I’m not so good to improve the situation.
"I’m trying to do everything to change the situation but the situation is not changing," Conte added.
"We are working a lot, we are working hard every day. I think that we are doing everything to change the situation but maybe it's not enough."
Conte will be speaking to the media on Friday afternoon and fans will be waiting to see what he has to say after he has had a couple of days to take in the defeat.
No matter what the 52-year-old believes, Spurs need to continue in the final few months of the season with the squad they have, before any changes can be made in the summer transfer window.
However if the Italian follows a similar method to the one he followed when he faced some struggles at Inter, it could provide Tottenham with some hope.
The Italian side were knocked out of the Champions League after finishing bottom of their group and after a draw at home to Shakhtar Donetsk confirmed their exit, Conte had a tense interview with former England manager, Fabio Capello.
Capello said: "It seemed to me that Inter played to win but without the necessary anger you need to have to win. You have been a player, you are a coach and you know what I mean."
Conte replied saying he had "nothing to say" but the 75-year-old pushed him and asked if he had a "Plan B to reverse situations" to which the Italian replied: "Yes we have a Plan B, but I am not going to talk about it in public because then our opponents will know about it and it will became useless."
After Conte won the Serie A title with Inter last season, he admitted that he thought the exit from the European competition helped his side in going on to win the league.
"I think the key moment was in the week we exited the Champions League, when criticism rained down on us in perhaps an exaggerated way," he explained.
"It wasn't easy. We had a group of guys who weren't used to winning. We did well to compact ourselves and take criticism to become even stronger.
"The best thing that happened to me is to have found a group that trusted me and my leadership implicitly. The players' growth has led to this result," the Italian added.
These comments from the 52-year-old could provide Tottenham with some hope going forward.
football.london understands that Conte has felt let down by some of his players' performances, including in the most recent trip to Turf Moor.
No one knows the Italian's intentions with his emotional post match press conference but could it be to try and give his players an extra push and make them realise they need to make a step-up and start producing consistent performances?
Maybe this is part of this 'plan B' which he said he had at Inter and it helped them go on to win the league title.
Tottenham are seven points off fourth placed Man United with two games in hand and even if they won both their remaining games in hand, they could only make it to sixth place, at most.
After finding success in the league with the Italian club, Conte spoke about the criticism helping his team become stronger and the "players growth" helped them to the league title.
A number of the Spurs players have openly praised their new boss for his work and training and how much he has already had an impact on them.
If the 52-year-old can continue influencing his new squad and his players can step-up and continue to have a belief in their manager, there is still space to have a decent end to the season.
Tottenham's next match in the FA Cup comes with a trip to Middlesbrough on Tuesday and although the fourth spot in the league is getting further out of their reach, it is also not impossible.
Conte's strong comments show the realistic struggles the Lilywhites are going through and it is now up to those on the pitch to provide results and help their side have the strongest possible end to the campaign.
