Antonio Conte breaks silence on Roman Abramovich situation at Chelsea amid government sanctions

Antonio Conte has spoken out about the Roman Abramovich situation at Chelsea, after a major decision was made earlier today.

football.london have been providing updated reports all day, since it was announced this morning that Abramovich's assets had been frozen by the UK government, which includes Chelsea Football Club.

Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine there have been question marks over the 55-year-old and his links with Vladmir Putin.

The decision that has been made has an impact on various areas of the club, although they are still allowed to play, due to a special sporting licence they have, which allows football activities to continue.

When Conte spoke to the media ahead of Tottenham's trip to Man United on Saturday, it was inevitable that the Italian would be asked about the situation.

The 52-year-old spent two years at the West London club and Chelsea was one club he has won a league title with.

"Honestly I have just listened to this situation," he admitted. "This morning we had a training session. Is not easy, is not easy.

"Honestly, it’s a pity, also because I was coach in this club, in Chelsea, I enjoyed two seasons. Also, I won two titles, I worked in this club. It’s a pity to listen to this situation, it’s not simple for the players, it’s not simple for Thomas Tuchel, for the fans, for the whole environment, Chelsea environment.

"Honestly, I hope that in general, that this situation between Russia and Ukraine is going to finish, and to find a peace, because it’s too much important," Conte added.

"And then, other situations that are coming, from this conflict. I think that it’s not right. I for hope the best, for this club, because I worked in this club, I enjoyed the two seasons.

"For sure, I love the team, the club, that I worked in, in the past. Every team that worked in the past. I hope for the best for them."

There is likely to be a number of questions still left to answer regarding the future at Chelsea, in terms of finances, travel, transfers etc.

It has already been confirmed that tickets to matches can no longer be sold, as well as merchandise and there is a cap as to how much can be spent on the team's travel and staging of games.
