Antonio Colak is free to join Rangers if he wants this summer - because PAOK wouldn't miss him after a difficult start to life in Greece. That's the view of PAOK legend Michaelis Iordanidis, who reckons the Croatian just isn't up to the pressure cooker of Greek football.
Colak is a target at Ibrox as Gio van Bronckhorst seeks some competition for Alfredo Morelos up top. The 28-year-old's prolific form for Rijeka earned him a £2.7m move to PAOK in 2020, but he has struggled to make his mark and spent the first half of last season on loan at Malmo. He rediscovered his shooting boots in Sweden but couldn't use it to reignite his PAOK career and now finds himself facing the exit door.
Rangers are locked in talks to sign him although the Greek club have said they won't sell until they can sign a replacement. And while former striker Iordanidis admits finding an alternative won't be easy, he's far from desperate to keep Colak at the club.
Iordanidis, who is also a coach now with the Greek Under 21s set-up, reckons he's struggled to handle the pressure in Greece. He said: "Antonio Colak was an expensive acquisition for the club, but let's be honest it hasn't worked out as expected at all. He just hasn't been able to cope with Greek football and he will be sold for sure.
"The problem is that leaves PAOK only with Nelson Oliveira and you cannot go into a new season with only one striker. Finding a foreign centre forward who is on a par with Oliveira costs a lot of money and takes time."
Colak only has four goals in 38 appearances in Greece to his name. However he netted 14 times for Malmo in the first half of last season, including a double against Rangers in Champions League qualifying.
