Antonio Colak set Rangers target as Michael Beale makes Alfredo Morelos challenge

Michael Beale has thrown down the gauntlet to Antonio Colak to make the main Rangers' striker's role his own.

The German-born star was back in the starting line-up and played a key role in the Light Blues' 3-1 win over Kilmarnock as Alfredo Morelos was put on the bench despite scoring in last week's Viaplay Cup final defeat to Celtic.

Colak bagged 15 goals in the early part of the season but hasn't been fully fit since Beale's arrival as manager. Beale admitted he was delighted with the Croatian striker's display with Connor Goldson, Fashion Sakala and James Tavernier all on target.

Beale said: "I've only had the option of Alfredo since I came back in but he's fully fit. I went with Tony because his personality and energy was worth a start. I wanted more energy in the position.

"The boys have two more games this week, so there was no reason to leave Alfredo out other than giving Tony a go. If that was the boy fully fit like at the start of the season, then I haven't seen that till today. I'm delighted for him on a personal level.

"First half, I thought he was our best player. He linked the play really well and you could see he had been doing some fitness work."
