Anton Du Beke gives verdict on former Strictly co-star Bruno Tonioli's BGT debut

Anton Du Beke praised his former Strictly Come Dancing co-star Bruno Tonioli after he was asked what he thought about the judge's performance on Britain's Got Talent.

Bruno made his debut on BGT this weekend as he joined Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon after replacing David Walliams.

Anton joined Susanna Reid and Ed Balls on GMB on Monday to discuss his latest tour, An Evening with Anton Du Beke, before being quizzed on his former Strictly co-star.

Susanna remarked: "Bruno is [now] on a different show, he's on Britain's Got Talent and he broke all the rules on Saturday night," and Anton replied: "Of course and rightly so! I think he's brilliant."

"I think it's a genius appointment," he continued. "If I was Simon Cowell I would have done exactly the same thing, I would have snapped him up in a heartbeat. He brings such a wonderful energy and vivacity and emotion."

Bruno inadvertently broke the rules more than once during his BGT debut on Saturday.

Firstly, the former Strictly judge pressed his buzzer while rejecting an act after they had performed before being told by his co-stars that he only needed to press the buzzer during a performance.

Later, he got a little ahead of himself when he pressed the golden buzzer while dance group Ghetto kids wowed the judges on stage, instead of waiting until the end of performance as usual.

Ant McPartlin was heard shouting: "Someone didn't explain the rules of Britain's Got Talent to him."

Meanwhile, ahead of his debut, Bruno opened up on how he's found his BGT experience so far.

He revealed: "Oh, it's incredible! I mean, honestly, I’ve had such a good time! Really, really, really good necause it is completely new for me, I told Simon, I never watched the show before. But I never watch anything I’m in, I never even watched Strictly or Dancing With the Stars.

"I want to feel free to give it my own personal spin, not copy what someone before me has done, if that makes sense. And the truth is that the talent really excites me because I love watching new talent. This is like live theatre. It's a proper variety show like we used to get. And I always loved that. Let me tell you, some of the talent we’ve seen during auditions…absolutely incredible. Wow!"

Good Morning Britain airs on ITV on weekdays at 6am.
