When Antoine Semenyo is in the form he showed on Saturday, he is virtually unplayable.
The striker added his seventh goal of the season in the first half when he robbed Richard Stearman of the ball in Derby's half, broke into the box and fired a pin-point left-footed striker into the corner of the net.
It was a finish of the highest order and ironically, probably one of the toughest chances he had all afternoon at Pride Park which sums up the striker in a nutshell.
A player with brilliant ability and all the physical attributes to make his mark as one of the most potent strikers in the Championship and undoubtedly soon destined for the Premier League. Not to mention hitting double figures for his number of assists after the draw against Sheffield United.
One moment he gets the fans off their seats by tormenting defenders with his skill and pace, the next minute he can frustratingly balloon one over the crossbar from 12-yards when he looks destined to rip the back of the net.
Against the Rams, Semenyo had eight shots in total - more than in any other game he has had this season. His previous highest tally came against Huddersfield (6) in the 3-2 loss in December.
As Nigel Pearson put it after the game, Semenyo could have easily hit double figures for this season's goal tally had he buried his chances. Perhaps he unselfishly didn't want to steal the thunder from team-mate Andi Weimann after scoring his 20th.
The manager said: "He should have been in double figures today actually, he's had some really good chances. The keeper's made a couple of saves of course but Antoine is probably ruing a couple of chances today but he's a difficult customer to play against."
Even Weimann joked after the game how Semenyo could have put him into double figures for his assists tally this season, which currently stands at nine.
The Austrian said with a smile: "The only thing I’m disappointed with is that Antoine [Semenyo] didn’t score and I put him in, that would have put me on 10 assists as well. Apart from that, I’m happy."
It is no surprise to see Semenyo linked with moves to the Premier League and abroad - West Ham, Celtic and Red Bull Salzburg just to name three although Bristol Live reported how up to nine clubs could be involved in a transfer tussle in the summer (a figure that is likely to have since grown).
At the age of just 22, Semenyo still has plenty to learn in the game and plenty of time to develop his game. If he can specifically hone in on improving his finishing in front of goal, it's a scary thought the number of goals he could score in this division.
In his 22 starts and seven substitute appearances, Semenyo is averaging 2.2 shots per game according to WhoScored. In each of those showings from the substitute bench, the Ghanaian has failed to register more than one shot.
Only 12 players across the Championship are averaging more shots per game and only one, Barnsley's Cauley Woodrow, has scored fewer goals (4).
Eight of those 12 players have a better shot to goal conversion rate with, and rather unsurprisingly, Aleksandar Mitrovic topping that chart having hit the net an average of every 4.1 strikes on goal.
Semenyo's currently stands at a goal every 9.11 shots - bettered by the likes of Dominic Solanke, Ben Brereton Diaz, Karlan Grant and Coventry's Matt Godden.
Out of the following four who have a worse goal conversion record, two are midfielders in Tom Lawrence and Ilias Chair while Woodrow and Coventry's Viktor Gyokeres are also more wasteful with their opportunities.
Compare that, for example, to the likes of Weimann who has been completely ruthless in front of goal this season when the opportunities have presented themselves.
He averages a goal every 3.96 shots, a brilliant return that was highlighted by Pearson in his post-match interview on Saturday when he said: "His finishing this season has been incredible."
Considering Semeno was only properly fit for the second half of the season, seven goals and 10 assists is a more than respectable contribution to the side. Add a little more composure to his play and the forward can rest assured that the rest of his game will take him to the very top.
