Metro operator Nexus has confirmed disruption to the service tonight was caused by antisocial behaviour.
Three people were reportedly involved in an incident at Tyne Dock Metro station at around 8.30pm. One the individuals involved allegedly trespassed on the track before they all left the station.
A Nexus spokesperson said: “Metro services were held up at Tyne Dock for around ten minutes this evening after an incident of disorder on board a train involving three people who appeared to be known to each other.
"One of the individuals involved then trespassed on the track when they crossed from one platform to the other before they all left the area."
It wasn't until they had left the area that the train was able to resume its journey.
The spokesperson added: “Our security team has been notified. The CCTV will be checked and a report prepared for the police.
Incidents of this nature will not be tolerated on Metro and we continue to work hard to deal with the minority of people who spoil Metro journeys for the law abiding majority of fare paying customers.”
