Antiques Road Trip experts stunned as £30 jewellery fetches huge unexpected profit

Experts on on Antiques Road Trip were left stunned this week when a pair of earrings and a pendant scored a significant profit after being auctioned.

The BBC series shows two antiques experts competing against each other, with them given a £200 budget at the start of the week - to boost through auctioning items.

In Monday's episode, jewellery expert Catherine Southon found a pair of emerald earrings and art nouveau pendant, which she purchased from a local retailer at a combined cost of £30.

It was expected that these items would do well at auction, with fellow expert Izzie Balmer commenting to her co-star: "I just don't think you can go wrong with this. I'm so excited for you."

The antiques specialists were however both stunned when the jewellery later sold at auction, with them ultimately fetching Catherine more than £200 in profit.

BBC viewers were told that online bidding for the items had reached £220, which prompted excitement from Catherine, who shouted "yes" whilst watching via a livestream.

Izzie was also totally aghast, crying out in shock: "No way."

The pair then watched as bids came in from inside an auction house, with people happy to pay even more for the antiques.

There was initially a bid with an increase of £20, but it didn't stop there.

It surpassed Catherine's expectations, with her stating: "I would have been over the moon with £120."

The two items were sold together at auction for £280.
