Hana Horka dead at 57: Anti-vax singer dies after deliberately catching Covid

An anti-vax singer has died after deliberately catching coronavirus so she could gain a health pass to visit a sauna.

Hana Horka, 57, contracted the Delta variant and died on Sunday, according to her son, Jan Rek.

The Czech folk artist, who sings for the band Asonance, exposed herself to the virus when her vaccinated son and husband caught it before Christmas, he told iRozhlas.cz pubilc radio.

"She decided to continue to live normally with us and preferred to catch the disease than to get vaccinated," he added.

Czech Republic, a member of the EU, requires proof of vaccination or a recent infection to enter bars and restaurants, sports and cultural events and for travel.

Covid cases are currently on the rise in the country which recorded 20,270 new cases in the last 24 hours, according to the World Heath Organization.

Two days before her death, Horka reassured her followers on social media "I survived, it was intense."

"So now there will be the theatre, sauna, a concert... and an urgent trip to the sea."

The musician went for a stroll outside but started suffering from back pain soon after she got back and died choking in her bed, according to her son Rek.

He blamed his mother's death on a local anti-vax movement and claims she was brainwashed into not getting the jab by its leaders who have "blood on their hands."

Rek added: "I know exactly who influenced her. It makes me sad that she believed strangers more than her proper family.

"It wasn't just total disinformation but also views on natural immunity and antibodies acquired through infection."

Asonance, from Prague, was formed in 1976 and perform mainly Scottish and Irish folk songs.

The band recorded their last joint album in 2019 with the title The Return of the King.
