Anti-bikie police swoop on man accused of 'king hit' at Merewether pub

A MAN police believe has associations with Hells Angels bikies has been arrested in a dawn raid at Newcastle after allegedly king hitting another man at a pub.

Specialist anti-bikie police, known as the Raptor Squad, raided a Merewether home at about 6am on Wednesday after an investigation into alleged assaults and a brawl last month.

Police were called to a licensed premises on Morgan Street at Merewether at about 11pm on September 14 after reports multiple men had been assaulted.

Newcastle police were told at the scene an unknown man had punched two men, aged 19 and 20, in the head before fleeing.

Both men allegedly suffered mouth and face injuries but refused medical treatment.

The State Crime Command's Raptor Squad launched investigations, which led them to the Merewether property on October 2.

Police moved on a 47-year-old man at the home, an alleged suspected associate of the Hells Angels outlaw motorcycle gang, and he was arrested.

Officers also uncovered and seized personal items allegedly used during the assaults, and electronic items.

The man was taken to Newcastle Police Station and charged with two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and one count of affray.

He was released on conditional bail and was ordered to front Newcastle Local Court for the first time on October 31.
