Anthony Stewart rapped for Rangers comments by Jim Goodwin as Aberdeen boss brands Morelos swipe ‘regrettable’

Jim Goodwin believes Aberdeen centre-back Anthony Stewart's comments comparing Rangers strikers Antonio Colak and Alfredo Morelos are "regrettable".

The Dons captain said ahead of Sunday's Viaplay Cup semi-final meeting between both sides that Colak was a better forward than his Rangers peer and it was Morelos who he'd prefer to face at Hampden. It's proved a talking point amongst both sets of fans but now Goodwin has weighed in.

While not slamming the former Wycombe man, he believes Stewart should have thought about what he said more carefully. He said: "I think that it is important to point out that Anthony Stewart meant no disrespect by the remarks that he made. I think they are regrettable. Having spoken to Anthony last night, and again this morning, he realises that he probably should have shown more common sense at that particular time. Journalists are quite clever in their approach sometimes and I think he's allowed himself to get drawn into an area where he should know better.

"We will ensure that kind of remark is not made again. We respect Rangers but I don't want to spend time talking about the opposition.

"We have given a lot of respect in training and in the build-up. It is really important we focus on Aberdeen and I focus on my squad."
