We’re less than two months into 2023 and Johnny Walker already has his second UFC fight booked.
The UFC light heavyweight contender is set to take on former title challenger Anthony Smith in a five-round contest in the headlining slot of a UFC event on May 13. A location for the event has yet to be announced by the promotion.
MMA Junkie confirmed the news of the matchup with multiple sources following an initial report by MMA Ideas.
Walker (20-7 MMA, 6-4 UFC) just fought Jan. 21 on the main card of UFC 283 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He picked up an impressive, first-round TKO over veteran Paul Craig. Walker now has two consecutive wins, which both came by finish, putting behind a two-fight losing streak.
On the other hand, Smith (36-17 MMA, 11-7 UFC) is looking to bounce back from a TKO loss to top contender Magomed Ankalaev last July. Prior to the defeat, in which he suffered a leg injury, Smith was on a three-fight winning streak, stopping Devin Clark, Jimmy Crute, and Ryan Spann.
