Anthony Ralston deemed 'professional bombscare' after Scotland-Switzerland errors

CELTIC'S Anthony Ralston has had his performance slammed online after Wednesday's Scotland-Switzerland game.

Though Steve Clarke's men secured a tie against the Swiss in Cologne, the defender's performance left much to be desired, losing the ball 17 times.

His greatest slip was allowing Xherdan Shaqiri's goal against the Scotland side 25 minutes into the game.

The ire saw his Wikipedia page modified to describe him as a "professional bombscare" who plays for Celtic or the Scotland team "whenever Nathan Patterson is injured or otherwise unavailable."

One Twitter/X user said: "Ralston the worst player to play at the euros ever?"

Another commented: "There is no way Ralston should have been on the pitch after the Germany game."

Many have questioned whether Clarke should start Ralston in Sunday's game against Hungary.

The team needs a win for them to have a realistic chance at progression to the next stage of the tournament.

However, depth on the roster is slim – especially with Arsenal defender Kiernan Tierney being stretchered off the pitch late in the game with what appeared to be a hamstring injury.

Others had kinder words for the Bellshill native for his second half performance.

Alasdair Fraser, a sports reporter from the Highlands, said on Twitter/X: "Absolute guts and character from Tony Ralston to recover like he did from a crushing moment like that and turn in a strong second half performance.

"A guy who has started eight games this season. Some comments on here laughable."

Scotland captain Andy Robertson agreed, saying: "Tony Ralston was unbelievable after that mistake. He was different class in the second half."
