Anthony Martial names Manchester United player he shares 'very important' connection with

Manchester United's Anthony Martial has admitted he's always had a special connection with Bruno Fernandes.

Martial, 27, spent six months on loan at Sevilla last season and his days at Old Trafford appeared to be numbered, but he impressed Erik ten Hag on the pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia, which meant he was given the opportunity to stay.

Although Ten Hag has been pleased with Martial when he's played, the forward has been limited to making just two starts in the Premier League after spending the bulk of the campaign sidelined with multiple different injury concerns.

However, Martial has now returned to full fitness and he's looking forward to resuming his "very important" connection with Fernandes, who he considers someone at the club who understands which attacking runs he will make.

"We always had that connection between us and we both just have to keep working to improve it. Well, that [assists] is something we always talk about," Martial told United's in-house media in a recent interview.

"As he left to take part in the World Cup, I was telling him to make sure that he comes home in good shape. And he would say, of course, lots of assists are coming your way. That’s one of the things about sport, that chat.

“It’s very important to have good connections on the pitch. You always want to know where your teammate is and where he’s going to run into space. For example, he [Fernandes] knows very well that I might go to take the ball at someone’s feet, and he will run deep.

"It’s that kind of little connection that helps you get to know the playing style of your partner. One, to evolve and, two, to help the team improve.”
