Anthony Martial blasted by Simon Jordan in scathing Cristiano Ronaldo comparison

Anthony Martial has been torn into by Simon Jordan, who delivered a scathing comparison to his time at Manchester United compared to Cristiano Ronaldo.

It comes just hours after his loan to Sevilla was officially confirmed, following a turbulent season that resulted in a public demand to leave Old Trafford.

The Frenchman was relegated to a bit-part role under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the start of the year, one that continued under Ralf Rangnick when he took over in November.

In December, Martial’s agent Philippe Lamboley revealed that his client was looking to leave in January.

Sevilla became the main competitors for his signature, while Juventus, Everton and Newcastle were also linked with the forward.

The Spanish club were initially turned down as the finances did not fit but they got their way in the end and the 26-year-old has moved to the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium until the end of the season.

But not everyone is impressed, including talkSPORT host Jordan - who has denounced Martial for not taking his United career as seriously as the likes of Ronaldo have.

“If you look at young players. Wayne Rooney went into Man United as a teenager, [Cristiano Ronaldo] went there, Jude Bellingham’s gone to Dortmund as a teenager,” Jordan said on air.

“It depends on the player and how they adapt.

“The ownership of the outcome is determined by the player and is created by him.

“If you’ve been there a couple years, or eighteen months like Wilfried Zaha went there, clearly it wasn’t right for him to go Man United at the time.

“You can contribute that to the player and the step up, he [Martial] has been given six-and-half-years!

“Six-and-half-years to get his act together. Ultimately he’s not really made his mark.

“It’s all been about what he can do rather than what he has done. You have to lay the blame the player – the same way with Memphis Depay when he came.

“There are also many examples of younger players who go to clubs and are successful.

“To build something of substance and to overcome adversity, if it’s always a one-way transaction then when a moment of adversity comes your way, you will fail.

While the loan is only until the end of the season, there is no permanent option to buy meaning Martial will return in the summer where his future will again be discussed.

However, Jordan believes the Red Devils have made an error by not insisting that Sevilla must keep hold of the France internatonal.

“Huge mistake for Man United, they should have got an option to purchase as back he’ll come once Seville know what they’ve got,” he added.

“He could [come good] and find himself in a situation where he bothers to apply himself and convince people to give him a long-term contract and then rewards them once he’s got his long-term contract.”
