Anthony Joshua vs Oleksandr Usyk 2 will 'stir' Tyson Fury into changing plan

After his win over Dillian Whyte at Wembley on April 23rd, Tyson Fury declared that he would be bringing down the curtain on his boxing career after 14 years as a professional. This is despite clamour to see the Gypsy King enter the ring and face either Anthony Joshua or Oleksandr Usyk for a unification bout.

This is the feeling throughout the boxing world, but Fury remains steadfast in his intention to retire, a sentiment which he has repeated since his sixth round knockout win over Whyte. 94,000 people saw that take place under the Wembley arch last month and a unification bout would surely be even bigger.

After the win, he told the press: "I've been in this game for 20 years, I'm 34 in a few months. This is definitely the end of the Gypsy King and I went out with a bang. Tonight was amazing but this is the end.".

However, Fury's American promoter Bob Arum has fuelled talk of one final fight in recent days, claiming that the undefeated champion could well enter the ring one last time for a fight with either Joshua or Usyk. Joshua lost his WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight titles in his first fight against Uskyk back in September.

“I’ll meet with Tyson [Fury], we’ll have dinner together, and whatever he wants to talk about,” said Arum to Fighthype. “It doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll talk any further about his retirement. I mean, with Tyson Fury, you’ve got to give him space about what he wants to do.

“Again, I’m not going to push him for answers or anything. There’s no reason to. We’ll just have a nice conversation. When he says he’s retired, he means it now. But whether he’ll mean it two months from now, that’s problematic. I think once the Joshua vs. Usyk fight happens, I think the blood will stir in his body."

Fury's wife Paris also hinted at her husband's future plans by telling BT Sport after his homecoming win at Wembley that a unification bout could be on the cards. She explained: "He has nothing left to prove - that's the thing, if he anything left to do I would say Tyson, you do it. Unless he really wants to box on - for fame or money or whatever - he doesn't need that. Tyson is the most famous man on the planet tonight.

"We're very blessed and lucky to not need anymore money - I am happy with what we are and what we have. I know in my heart that the only reason Tyson would come back is for a unification fight and that would be the only reason. He has nothing left to prove."
