Anthony Joshua offered fight with Joe Joyce if Oleksandr Usyk rematch is delayed

Anthony Joshua has offered a fight with Joe Joyce as an interim but while he waits for Oleksandr Usyk to become available for a rematch.

The former heavyweight champion lost his belts to the Ukrainian last September, but immediately exercised his immediate rematch clause to set up a second fight.

However, the ever-changing situation in Ukraine amid their dispute with Russia means Usyk has had to step back from boxing to focus on issues in his country.

And that has left Joshua in the lurch, unsure of when he will be be granted his shot at reclaiming the titles for what would be a third time.

If the bout gets delayed, his promoter Eddie Hearn has indicated that he would be willing to take an interim fight, with Frank Warren offering the services of 2016 Olympic silver medalist Joe Joyce.

"I think the public would definitely buy into AJ-Joe Joyce," Warren responded when iFL TV suggested the possible match-up. "We’d make that in a heartbeat.

"Joe would fight him in a heartbeat - what a great domestic bust-up that is, let’s get our heads together and we’ll get that done."

And Joshua will be on the guestlist for Warren's massive Tyson Fury vs Dillian Whyte world heavyweight title fight next month should he express an interest.

The Brit told Mirror Fighting at last weekend's Showstar Boxing event in London that he "doesn't give a f***" about the fight, but Warren has said that should he want to make an appearance, he will be more than welcome.

“Of course, he can come along to the show,” Warren said when asked if Joshua would be welcome at the event despite his ties to Eddie Hearn and heated rivalries with both Fury and Whyte.

“He’s been a guest at loads of my shows before he turned professional, he used to come along to the shows.

"He knows what to do, pick up the phone and we’ll sort him out.”

Joshua has shared the ring with Whyte on track to becoming world champion, as well as a bout in the amateurs, with the pair holding a win apiece.

And the feud has never been truly settled, even though the two-time champion is backing Whyte to defeat Fury at Wembley next month.

“It’s a good defence against Dillian Whyte," Joshua told iFL TV of the Fury fight.

"Dillian Whyte needs to come in and look at what Tyson Fury does and reacts to, and do the complete opposite.

“Work the body and be conditioned to go the distance, I hope Dillian trains hard and doesn’t underestimate Tyson.

“Because this is his first [world title] shot for Dillian, I think he’ll be hungry - I mean, it's his tenth time fighting for a title, and he can have a little hiccup along the way.

“This is his first time fighting for a title - I’m rooting for Dillian, even though I hate him.

"I want to smash him one of these days. Go on, Dillian, go all the way."
