Anthony Gordon sent transfer 'distraction' message as blunt verdict shared on Everton form
Leon Osman has spoken of his relief that Anthony Gordon remained at Everton during the summer and isn’t surprised the youngster has suffered a dip in form this season.
Gordon was the subject of a failed £40 million bid from Chelsea in August, with Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United also linked with the winger. Blues boss Frank Lampard was adamant Gordon's development could be continued on Merseyside throughout the summer.
His faith was repaid as Gordon struck important goals at Brentford and Leeds United as the speculation over his future reached its peak. Chelsea's interest in Gordon also prompted Everton to raise the prospect of discussing a contract extension with the England Under-21 international but, as yet, there has been no agreement.
However, the ECHO understands that discussions have been positive to date, with a source with knowledge of the talks also dismissing claims of any problems between Gordon and the Goodison Park club. Speaking ahead of Everton’s visit to Tottenham Hotspur, Lampard admitted he was 'worried' about Gordon’s recent performances, including the disciplinary record that resulted in him missing the defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

'Pure excitement' - Dominic Calvert-Lewin names position Everton have improved after summer transfers
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has revealed how Everton’s summer transfer business left him excited to get back playing as he hailed the work of Frank Lampard and Kevin Thelwell.
Calvert-Lewin started his first game of the season on Saturday after missing the opening months of the campaign due to injury. However, the team he returned to was much changed from the one he played in last season.
The Blues recruited the likes of Neal Maupay, Idrissa Gueye, James Garner, Amadou Onana and experienced defenders James Tarkowski and Conor Coady during the summer as Thelwell and Lampard performed a squad overhaul. While seven players departed the club on a permanent basis, with a further 11 leaving on loan, including big earners Dele Alli, Andre Gomes and Jean-Philippe Gbamin.
