Anthony Gordon to Chelsea transfer: £60m bid, huge Instagram hint dropped, Tottenham hijack

Chelsea have been one of the busiest Premier League clubs in the summer transfer window, with more business expected before the end of the August.

After losing Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen on free transfers, the Blues looked to Kalidou Koulibaly and Marc Cucurella as Thomas Tuchel reshaped his defence. Club captain Cesar Azpilicueta signed a contract renewal until 2024 ending speculation over the Spaniard's future.

England superstar Raheem Sterling made the move to Stamford Bridge and Tuchel is still looking to bolster his attacking options before the transfer window slams shut, football.london understands. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Rafael Leao are two names hot on the agenda to date alongside Everton star Anthony Gordon. With that being said, football.london takes a look at all the latest speculation involving the 21-year-old potentially joining the west London outfit this summer.

Informal transfer request submitted

Anthony Gordon has told Everton of his intentions to leave Merseyside for West London and there are two reasons, in particular, why he wants this move to SW6 which may still not go through before the deadline.

The Athletic's David Ornstein tweeted: 'EXCL: Anthony Gordon has told Everton + Frank Lampard he wants to join Chelsea. 21yo keen to play CL & boost WC chances. #EFC made aware #CFC ready to pay £50m+10m but nothing agreed; still want to keep him & need a replacement if he goes.'

This one could really go right to the wire!

Tottenham hijack still possible

The Lilywhites were linked in the early parts of the window to Gordon but nothing ever materialised back then.

It is understood that if/when Bryan Gil leaves, Fabio Paratici may allow Antonio Conte to strengthen further with Gordon someone the Italian admires. football.london understands that Tottenham do retain their interest in the Everton winger but Chelsea are currently leading the race.

Could there still yet be a twist to the tale?

Sports Journalist Pete O'Rourke has doubled down and has gone a step further by claiming that the north Londoners are ready to make a late move to rival their London counterparts for the signature of Gordon.

£60m bid set to get the 'green light'

Chelsea and more specifically Todd Boehly are prepared to pay the Toffees a total of £60m including add-ons for the Everton prospect.

Sky Sports have reported that Everton are losing hope in trying to get their number 10 to sign a new and improved contract as they seriously now contemplate cashing in and using those funds to spur a mini-transfer spree before September 1.

Major Instagram hint dropped

Gordon dropped a huge hint earlier this week that his £50million Chelsea transfer move will go through before the end of the window. deadline.

football.london understands that the Blues have had two bids in the region of £40m and £45m rejected for the young forward with the asking price set at around £50m. Todd Boehly is understood to want to include a few fringe players in the deal to reach the full valuation with Frank Lampard reportedly interested in the likes of Michy Batshuyai, Armando Broja and Billy Gilmour respectively.

With Hakim Ziyech, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Christian Pulisic's futures all up in the air with at least two expected to depart on different deals (loan/permanent) this summer, a new wide player will need to be signed to compensate for those exits.

It is understood that the player is internally pushing for the move. And he's doubled down on this stance if his latest social media hint is to be acknowledged. According to Everton fan @ben_efc_1878, the player in question has removed Everton from his Instagram bio as he seemingly prepares for a new chapter and new start in West London.

Done deal this week

The Times have reported that Chelsea are 'confident' to get this deal wrapped up by the end of this week.

Chelsea prepare second bid

Chelsea are set to return with a better offer for the Everton star, and though it won’t meet the £50m Everton believe is the player’s minimum value, it is getting closer.

The Blues can offer Gordon a much more enticing wage package, the appeal of Champions League football and a central role in Tuchel's plans to build an exciting, young Chelsea team for the future.

Player stance

It is understood that Gordon has indicated to Frank Lampard that he is keen on a move to Chelsea and wants the manager to consider the Blues' offer, as per The Mirror.

Everton are also aware that there has been informal contact with the 21 year old’s representatives, with Chelsea ready to offer a package that is hard to resist for the youngster.

Everton stance

Everton have made it clear that they do not wish to sell their star youngster with the club having offered Gordon the option to sign a new contract at Goodison Park.

The Toffees have rejected advances from Tottenham and Newcastle so far this summer, but with Chelsea now pursuing a deal for the 21-year-old, Frank Lampard may be forced into selling Gordon to be able to reinvest in the squad.

Jamie Carragher opinion

Jamie Carragher, who was speaking in the Sky Sports studio following Chelsea's dramatic 2-2 draw with Tottenham, cannot see Everton accepting £40million for their young attacker. He said: "That's a lot of money for a young player just coming onto the scene.

"I don't see how Everton would accept that right now. They're lacking attacking players and he's the one big hope for the club. He's a local lad and he's the one they are all hanging their hats on. I think it will have to be a lot higher than that (£40million) for Everton to accept that."

Chelsea £40m bid rejected

Chelsea had a £40 million bid for Gordon rejected by Everton earlier in the window, sources told ESPN.

Gordon is viewed as an exciting prospect for the future who could fill one of the three attacking positions in Tuchel's preferred 3-4-2-1 system.
