Anthony Gordon spotted in Newcastle shirt as £45m Everton exit set to be confirmed

Anthony Gordon has been spotted in a Newcastle United shirt at St James’ Park ahead of his £45million transfer from Everton being confirmed.

Having attended training at Finch Farm for the first time this week on Friday having missed the sessions led by Leighton Baines and Paul Tait on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with only the first day described as an “planned absence” by the club, Gordon travelled north to Tyneside and was also pictured arriving for his medical this morning.

Everton valued the 21-year-old at £60million but while the Magpies were initially unwilling to go above £40million, a structured deal with incentives has been struck after the Kirkdale-born player and his representatives made it clear he was determined to leave the club he has been at since the age of 11.

Having been focusing on loans – with Arnaut Danjuma having been poised to sign before Tottenham Hotspur hijacked the deal – Gordon’s sale would increase their spending power while also necessitating the need for a potential replacement for him.
