Anthony Gordon has vowed to increase his goal and assist tally as he looks to provide a spark in front of goal for Newcastle United. The £40m addition certainly got fans off their seats in the 1-1 draw with West Ham United after impressing off the bench at St James' Park.
There are calls for Gordon to be thrown in from the outset against Bournemouth with Newcastle struggling to turn draws into wins of late. Eddie Howe's men have only scored two goals in their last five Premier League outings as Miguel Almiron, Callum Wilson, Alexander Isak and Allan Saint-Maximin try to re-find their goalscoring form.
Gordon admits he wasn't prolific while at Everton but believes he is ready to thrive in this Newcastle side. "Goals and assists are where I want to excel at," Gordon said during an interview for Newcastle's official matchday programme.

"I haven't been able to show that because the other teams I've played in have struggled, which hasn't been easy. Now I'm at Newcastle, and with the players around me as well as the manager, hopefully I can push forward with my numbers.
"This team is full of players who can create a goal out of nowhere. I'll be looking for that and I trust the players here to help me score those goals. From what I've seen of Eddie, I'm really excited to be working with him."
Gordon may get his chance from the start this weekend after a positive cameo in Saturday's 1-1 draw. The wide man replaced Saint-Maximin with little over 20 minutes to play and almost helped himself to an assist moments later.
There is a fierce competition for places on Tyneside at present and Gordon's January arrival puts pressure on the current crop of attackers at Newcastle. Speaking after the 21-year-old's debut, Howe admits he was pleased with what he saw.
“I was very happy with him. Your first action here in St James’ Park is important," the Newcastle boss said at full-time. "His first pass was brilliant and he brought some life to us at a time when we needed it in the game.
“I’m disappointed for him that we couldn’t get him into the penalty area and see what he can do closer to goal, but he did really well when he came on.”
