Newcastle forward Anthony Gordon has been ruled out of the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool later this month following a red card against Brighton.

The England international was dismissed in the second-half of Newcastle’s FA Cup fifth round clash with the Seagulls on Sunday.

Gordon was dismissed after appearing to push Jan Paul van Hecke and will now miss his side’s next three games, which includes their trip to Wembley to face Liverpool on Sunday 16 March, 2025.

Unless the Tyneside giants appeal successfully, the 24-year-old will also miss the trip to West Ham next week as well as their home game against Brentford in the Premier League at the start of April.

Gordon also missed Newcastle’s last appearance in the Carabao Cup final two years ago, having arrived from Everton in January 2023 cup-tied.

Newcastle were also missing Nick Pope through suspension that day and the fact Martin Dubravka was cup-tied meant Loris Karius had to make his first appearance in two years.
