Anthony Elanga told he's only Manchester United player 'close' to getting into Man City team

Anthony Elanga has been named as the only Manchester United player 'close' to getting into the Man City team.

The Swedish teenager has had an impressive spell at United since breaking into the first team squad when Ralf Rangnick arrived. In recent weeks he has put in some game-defining performances for the Reds.

A couple of weeks ago at Elland Road he was in the thick of the action as United defeated Leeds. After being hit by an object thrown from the crowd, Elanga scored the all-important fourth goal to seal the three points.

Just three days later he reprieved his role as super sub, slotting home an equaliser to ensure that the Champions League round of 16 tie was finely poised heading into the return leg at Old Trafford later this month. Despite this, and other big-name stars in the United dressing room, Shaun Wright-Phillips believes that the 19-year-old would not making it into the City line-up.

When asked if any United players could make their way into Pep Guardiola's side, the former Blue told FreeSuperTips : "No not really. I would have said before [Cristiano] Ronaldo went off the boil that he could get into a City team.

"I haven't seen Bruno Fernandes in the way that we have seen him in the last year, so honestly, I don't think anyone would walk into City's team. The only one who would be the closest is Elanga right now."

Wright-Phillips' words could work as motivation this Sunday when United travel to City for the Manchester derby. City currently find themselves top of the Premier League, six points clear of Liverpool having played a game more.

Manchester United meanwhile are in a battle for the top four. Rangnick's team are currently fourth but are just two points above West Ham and Arsenal, the latter has three games in hand on United.
