Anthony Elanga scores for Sweden ahead of possible Manchester United summer exit

Manchester United's Anthony Elanga scored from the bench for Sweden in their 4-1 win against New Zealand on Friday night.

Elanga was brought on just after the hour mark in the game and he scored his nation's fourth goal in injury time when bursting down the right wing before striking a low, driven shot into the bottom left corner.

The forward has scored in consecutive games for Sweden and national duty has provided him with an opportunity for minutes, as he's fallen down the pecking order with Erik ten Hag in charge, having made just seven league starts this term.

Elanga last scored for United in February 2022 against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League and although the club were initially planning to loan out the academy graduate this summer, it's understood permanent offers will be listened to.

The 21-year old has not played in the league since he appeared late on in United's 7-0 thrashing at Liverpool on March 5 and offers in the region of £10million will be considered, with Elanga deemed surplus to requirements.

Elanga recently discussed his future and said: “It’s been hard but I can’t control it, it’s just a matter of being strong in the head and showing that I’m ready when the coach wants me to play, but right now the season is over, and it was a good season for the club."

Elsewhere on the international stage, England comfortably defeated Malta 4-0 in their first European qualifier game of the month and Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire started the game, while Marcus Rashford featured from the bench.

England will play North Macedonia on June 19 and United's players will get a chance for another short break before reporting for pre-season, with the first friendly game of the summer pencilled in on July 12 against Leeds in Oslo, Norway.

It remains to be seen whether Rasmus Hojlund, who is on the club's transfer shortlist, will be part of that pre-season tour. He started for Denmark in their 1-0 win against Northern Ireland on Friday night but he didn't score the matchwinner.

The youngster has contributed 10 goals and four assists for Atlanta this season.
